How Black Girl Vitamins Helped 10 Black Women Climb Mount Kilimanjaro
When most people think of outdoor adventures, like climbing Mount Kilimanjaro or going on safari, images of Black women are rarely the first in mind. But that’s exactly what Soraka Tours, a Black-owned adventure company, is changing. Founded by Sophia and Baraka, Soraka Tours provides safe, ethical, and life-changing experiences throughout Tanzania, from scaling Africa’s highest peak to immersive safari tours across the country!
Meet the Founders: Sophia and Baraka
The founders, Sophia and Baraka, have a mission that extends beyond their adventurous spirits and dives into responsibility and ethics. Baraka maintains every client’s health, safety, and security, while Sophia ensures that solo female travelers are free of harassment and other unwanted attention. These two are rewriting the narrative that outdoor activities are not associated with “Blackness” and offering new, eye-opening experiences to people who look like them!
Every trip uplifts local workers and communities by guaranteeing fair wages, safe working conditions, and sustainable practices. By doing so, they’re not just offering adventure, they’re creating positive change that lasts long after the tourists leave.
Black Women on the Summit

In June 2025, 10 Black women stood on top of Africa’s highest peak, climbing all 19,340 feet of Mount Kilimanjaro. To Soraka Tours, this was a statement about visibility, wellness, and unity in outdoor spaces where Black women are too often underrepresented.
These ladies were fueled by Black Girl Vitamins, specifically Vitamin D3 and Collagen Powder, and kept warm with BGV sweatshirts and towels. The climb was physically demanding, but with the right supplements, preparation, and community support, they conquered every step.

Adventure as Wellness

Outdoor activities like climbing and safari adventures improve mental clarity, resilience, and confidence, while supplements ensure the body has the nutrients it needs to keep up.
For these 10 women, the climb wasn’t just a hike—it was a journey of empowerment, community, and self-discovery. It highlighted the importance of representation in outdoor spaces, showing that Black women belong in every arena, including ones historically dominated by others.
