Back to School with BGV: Investing in the Next Generation of STEM Leaders
As students head back to the classroom, we’re thinking about creating more opportunities for students to explore, ask questions, and see themselves in careers they may not have imagined before. Supporting the next generation of healthcare leaders starts with making sure students have the tools and resources they need to discover their potential early.
We’re marking Back-to-School season by committing $10,000 to STEM-focused resources for middle and high school science classrooms in underserved communities. A portion of sales from September 6–12 will help fund essential supplies and hands-on learning tools for students.
On average, teachers spend $895 of their own money on classroom supplies to support their students’ success. We’re committed to helping offset some of that cost while investing in students who may one day become the next generation of doctors, scientists, and healthcare leaders.
This year, we’re supporting selected schools including Daniel H. Williams Preparatory School of Medicine and Corliss Early College STEM High School in Chicago, as well as Howard University Middle School of Mathematics and Science in Washington, D.C.
For us, investing in STEM education is about giving students opportunities to connect what they’re learning in the classroom to the world around them. At one Chicago school, students will explore diabetes through a classroom project, giving them the opportunity to examine a real-world health issue that disproportionately affects Black communities nationwide. Projects like this can help make science feel more tangible while encouraging students to think about how their knowledge can be used to make a difference.
We believe every student deserves the opportunity to explore STEM and imagine what is possible for their future. By supporting projects that bring science to life—including those that examine real-world health issues—we’re helping students build the curiosity and confidence to pursue new possibilities.
Our commitment to advancing Black women in healthcare starts long before college. Through our $100,000 scholarship fund, we’ve invested in women pursuing healthcare careers. This Back-to-School initiative expands that commitment by reaching students earlier in their academic journeys and helping them see themselves as future leaders in science and healthcare.
