Black Art is Wellness: A Centennial Celebration of Black History
As Black Girl Vitamins celebrates the 100th year of Black History Month, we’re shining a light on the intersection where our creativity, healing, and collective power live. But first, let’s briefly dive into what makes this year extra special.
100 Years of Black History

In 2026, Black History Month marks the 100th anniversary of its federal recognition, commemorating a century of honoring Black history, culture, and contributions in the United States (Forbes, 2026). It began in 1926 as Negro History Week, a dedicated period of education and reflection, and has since evolved into a month-long cultural observance recognized every February.
The visionary behind this movement was Dr. Carter G. Woodson, a distinguished historian and educator. Born to formerly enslaved parents, Dr. Woodson deeply understood that erasing a people’s history also erases their humanity. He famously wrote, “Those who have no record of what their forebears have accomplished lose the inspiration which comes from the teaching of biography and history.”
Why Art Is Wellness
For generations, visual art has been one of the most powerful vessels of expression across the Black diaspora. When mainstream spaces ignored or excluded Black voices, we told our stories anyway, through paintings, murals, textiles, music, and movement. Art became a form of resistance, release, and restoration.
Art also helps us process emotions, manage stress, and reconnect with ourselves. When we say Black Art Is Wellness, we’re affirming that creativity is healing.
Black Art is Wellness Campaign

For the past few years, Black Girl Vitamins has partnered with individual artists to create limited-edition designs honoring Black History Month. Each collaboration was a celebration of creativity and culture, but this year, we wanted to go even bigger.
We’re proud to introduce Black Art Is Wellness, a campaign that honors the deep connection between artistic expression and holistic health within the Black community.
We collaborated with 18 talented artists from across the country, bringing together diverse styles, stories, and perspectives to reimagine what wellness looks like.
This campaign isn’t just about beautiful packaging, but about representation. It’s about creating space for Black artists to be seen while reminding our community that wellness can be expressive, vibrant, and personal.
The Artist Selection
The journey began in October 2025 with a nationwide artist search. Through social media and community outreach, we invited creatives worldwide to submit their work and vision for wellness-inspired designs.
More than 50 incredible artists applied, each bringing their own interpretation of healing, culture, and Black womanhood. After careful review, 18 artists were selected to bring Black Art Is Wellness to life.
Their designs now appear on nearly 20 BGV products and merchandise, transforming everyday wellness essentials into wearable, collectible works of art.
Limited-Edition Designs

Throughout Black History Month, these special designs will be available for purchase and highlighted across our platforms, giving our community a chance to experience wellness not just as a routine but as a visual and cultural experience.
More Than a Campaign
Black Art Is Wellness reflects what Black Girl Vitamins stands for. We believe wellness should be inclusive, expressive, and rooted in community. We believe Black women deserve to see themselves represented in every aspect of health, including how it looks and feels.
This Black History Month, we’re honoring the past, celebrating the present, and investing in a future where art and wellness continue to thrive together.
